Review

Everything waiting on you: what your AIs have proposed for your Memory, what they have asked to read, and any key that has not had its first package approved.

What Gubbins promises here

Nothing here has happened yet. Your Memory does not change and no key widens until you say so.

Why this is a room of its own

Review is the one room you are sent to rather than one you visit. Every other room answers a question you arrived with; this one holds the things that are waiting on a decision from you and would otherwise sit unnoticed.

It carries the only badge in the product, on its door, and that badge shows nothing at all when there is nothing waiting. A mark that is always there is furniture nobody sees, including on the day it says twelve.

Proposals

When an assistant learns something durable about you, it does not write it into your Memory. It proposes it, and the proposal lands here with the name of the key that made it.

An assistant can propose five kinds of thing:

  • A new memory it thinks is worth keeping.
  • A correction to something already there that it believes is out of date.
  • Retiring a memory it believes has gone stale, without knowing what should replace it.
  • A connection between two memories that belong together.
  • A request to read more of your Memory than its key currently allows.

You can edit the wording of a proposal before accepting it, accept a whole group in one press, or decline. A decline is your no: a well-behaved assistant does not propose the same thing again.

Preflight, and the first package

A new key does not start reading the moment it is made. The first time it asks for context, what it would have been given is held here for you to look at before any of it leaves.

That is the preflight. It exists because the gap between what a key is narrowed to on paper and what that actually turns out to include is only obvious when you see the package. Until you approve it, the assistant is told that its request is waiting on you, and it receives nothing.

A key sitting unapproved is counted in the badge, so it cannot wait forever without anything saying so.

Finding one in a long pile

The pile has a search box once there is something in it. Ticks survive a search, but the bar at the foot only ever counts and decides what is on the screen: if a search hides something you ticked, it waits until you clear the search rather than being decided out of sight.

What Review is not

Records of things that already happened are not here. Receipts for reads, keys made and revoked, and every change to who may reach what live in the ledger under Access.

The line is decisions you have not made yet, on this side, and records of what happened, on that side.

Where it is

Review is the second room in the app, and the badge on its door is the one signal that something needs you. Open Gubbins.
